When Minoru Tsujino returns to his hometown in the Noto Peninsula, he finds a community on the brink of disappearing. Determined to preserve its identity, he forms a creative collective to carry forward the traditions and spirit of his home, including the fiery chaos of the town’s 400-year-old Abare Festival. After a series of natural disasters further threatened the region, his mission took on even greater urgency.
Abare Matsuri is a festival with a history of over 400 years in Noto, known for its fierce rituals involving fire and the violent destruction of portable shrines. Set against the backdrop of earthquakes and floods, this film portrays the local people who continue to preserve their cultural heritage and pass it on to the next generation.
